Who is the real Melania Trump, where is she on the abortion issues
When I first heard Melania Trump come out in favor of abortions, I was pleasantly surprised, but that didn't last very long. Let's say a half a minute. But immediately after my first reaction, one embedded in commentaries such as: "She too is being abused by her husband, save Melania." But I must admit I must resist this delusion because I simply can't fall for it. Let me try to explain.
I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. And I always try to envision the best out of everyone. But with Melania, it becomes difficult to come to that conclusion. Mrs. Trump is certainly the most mysterious first lady we ever had. She does have an intriguing personality and an intoxicating beauty. She has an exotic Slovenian cultural identity. And her background as a model and allegedly as a luxury escort is very juicy. I have nothing against the profession, but the luxury escort on your resume for a first lady job is at least very odd. No, you can't be both. You're either an escort or a first lady.
It seems, at times, she wants to be part of the political process but only from a comfortable and safe place where she will get the rewards without having to do the hard work. She, at times, reminds me of some of the stories I've heard of elite females. Either married to a powerful man or coming from a super-rich oligarch family who engages in cosmetic philanthropies like saving the turtles or saving the forest but have never been to the forest and hate turtles. I just don't see any fiber from Mrs. Trump.
The plagiarism event
It is tough for me to give credit to a person who plagiarizes the work of others. Perhaps this was the first time Mrs. Trump lost my credibility. In a speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention, Mrs. Trump plagiarized Michael Obama's speech, and in several instances, word by word. The simple fact that she didn't gauge this action's gravity in front of the whole world is extremely concerning. Please watch the clip:
The I don't care jacket story
What was that all about? This was perhaps one of the most important and also the weirdest moments of her career as a First Lady. Mrs. Trump visited a detention center housing migrant children in Texas. She wanted to see the conditions in the shelter, caring for 55 children under the brutal Donald Trump's separation policy crisis. Her noble act of voicing her concern was a great opportunity to show she cared. Ironically, she leaves the visit wearing a jacket with the message: "I really don't care, do you?"
She later said it was only a jacket with no message at all. But usually, and most will agree when you wear a jacket that says "I don't care," it usually means that you don't care. And to wear a jacket that says "I don't care" when the sole purpose of your visit was to say "I do care" conventional wisdom says you should not wear that jacket, at least in that event. Very shallow or stupid? Both
Then Mrs. Trump changed her mind and said that the jacket was intentionally used to express her disdain for the fake media that talked badly about her. Yet another story emerged, one in which it was all about Ivanka and their personal family feuds. But that is way beyond the scope of this post. Just let this sink in for a moment. If it quacks like a duck
Finally, we can't forget that Melania Trump is the wife of Donald J. Trump. She is not a prisoner of Mar-a-Lago. She chooses to be with him and, by doing so, condones everything that he is. She is the wife of Trump, a man we well know to be the biggest threat to our democracy, a convicted raper and a criminal who, if allowed in the White House again, will cause incalculable damage to our country. The wive of Donald Trump is, in essence, his representative on all the issues. Melania Trump, where is she on the real issues?
Am I impressed that she is now espousing pro-abortion views contrary to her husband? At best, it is one more lame attempt to be seen as someone who cares and is humanitarian; at worst, she is just trying to help Donald Trump win the White House. He finally realized that his decision to make abortion illegal is perhaps his biggest liability in this election, and it would be helpful if his wife said she is pro-abortion. Maybe that would bring some votes back. Nice try...
